Using Royal Icing On Gumpaste That Has Been Rolled Out With
Decorating By jtcreativecakes Updated 9 Dec 2011 , 4:25am by BlakesCakes
I have a question that I havent been able to find on the net. First off I rolled a mixture of half gumpaste and half fondant using shortening. I used mini christmas cookie cutters and cut them out. They are nice and dry and i wanted to decorate them now with royal icing, but my question is since I used shortening instead of powder sugar to roll them out witll this cause the royal icing to melt and not get hard??? I know you have to degrease everything so I didnt know if this would work, ( they are dry so I didnt know if it would be safe) IF anyone can answer this I would be very greatful I dont want to ruin them.
ps i wanted to use royal icing cause im planning on doing tiny detail work...
Thanks

They should be fine as they are, but....
You could dust on some cornstarch and then wipe it off.
You could wipe them down with some Everclear or vodka.
You could wipe them off with a bit of vinegar.
I'd sacrifice one as a test subject and see if you need to do anything at all.
