I was just curios what I could bake in a cake that when you cut into it, it looks like it is bleeding? I am not talking about red velvet. I will be using white cake, but the little boy I am doing this cake for wants his monster to be scary and I thought it would be kind of cute if it looked like it was bleeding inside.

Would the red non-pareils work?

Not a big deal, just a last minute idea. His mom might hate it! But he might love it. icon_smile.gif

That might work or maybe you could use some kind of red frosting for the filling. Maybe you could add some red food coloring to the batter to give it some red color. You might test a small amount first to make sure that the batter does not turn pink!!!! Good luck! icon_smile.gif

Bake your cake like you would normally do and then use a pastry tube to pipe some seedless raspberry filling (or any other red filling) into the cake. Or, torte as if to fill it but dig a little of the cake out and fill it that way. Maybe to keep it from really seeping into the cake coat the area well with buttercream and then put the 'blood' in.

Mom will probably hate it but ya know the little guy will love it!

What about a jello poke cake? Essentially you poke holes in the cake and pour jello into them and then it sets up, of course. I don't have a recipe, but I've heard about it and it was my first thought.

That is a good idea! I thought about using my meat injector (I have one that hasn't been opened) and injecting some red food color or strawberry/raspberry glaze of some sort.

That is a great idea too, however I have had BAD luck using the poked hole jello method. It always turns out soggy. I guess I am doing it wrong. icon_sad.gif

Maybe I could use the injector to inject the jello, that way it wouldn't be so soggy.

Do you think the mom would be mad at me? I would hate to upset HER!

What about injecting cherry pie filling, without the cherries, just the runny stuff into it?

How old is the little boy? I would think if he's around 8 or 9, he and his friends will love it. If he's younger, you may traumatize him. No more cakes for him! icon_surprised.gif

Cherry or strawberry pie glaze would work too,,,it's gooey and runny but not drippy!!Good luck-let us know what you used and how it worked! Mom will be fine-isn't she the one who ordered it ?

Those are all great ideas!!! Gosh, now it's gonna be hard to decide.....

The little boy is either 8 going on 9 or 9 going on 10.
He originally wanted a Godzilla cake, with blood oozing out, but his mom told him that his friends might get grossed out. (That is why I am concerned about the mom....I know he would love it!)

I wanted to do it as a surprise, but since she told him that, I might ask her. I am going to do a test cake first....to see how well it works. I wouldn't want her to think I sent her an uncooked cake! LOL

you could also try tinted piping gel. i think it would work great.
