I've been making cakes just for fun, for family, but now I'm getting orders for them & I'm having a really hard time pricing my cakes. I don't want to over charge, but I don't want to under charge either.

How much do you charge for your fondant cakes? & What do you base your prices on? Cake/serving size, details, amount of work involved, ect.

I have tried emailing several local bakeries/cake makers, but no one has replied back.

I still price by the # of servings. Around $3 per slice - but of course that varies depending on your area. I use the Wilton chart for 'wedding cakes' to price all. A tiered cake is a tiered c ake no matter the occasion so charge accordingly. If the cake is 4" tall that means it is/should be cut the same as a 'wedding' cake in my book

Assuming you can legally sell homemade cakes in your area (some states require licensed commercial kitchens), you can set prices by determining your costs (including ingredients, labor, and overhead) then adding a profit margin (typically 20-30%).

You also have to take into account what others in your area are charging and what your skill level is.

I agree with Annabakescakes, set out and see what your local rates are for similar cakes or go online (if the businesses have a web presence)
