I am not sure what to do for my grandpa's 91st bday cake...I was thinking of maybe a tiered cake with edible images all over. Does anyone have any suggestions?

How about a 'cake of your life' kinda thing?

a tiered cake, with edible images going around each tier, surrounded in edible photoframes you coulkd make. Each photo shows different milestones from his life, and next to the photoframes, you could handmake litte accesories, figures. Say 4 photos and frames, one for each side of the cake? Do this for all tiers then something special and personal on the top.

Example, if for instance he is a war veteran.. then an edible photo from his war days, surrounded in a handmade edible frame, and army couours around this with maybe a helmet, boots, american flag etc sitting on the tier edgh next to that photo?

Sorry im not good at explaining what i see in my head! Goodluck, im sure whatever you make he will love it icon_smile.gif x

Are you putting together a slideshow of your family's memories? that'll be cool to watch as well while eating cake icon_wink.gif

Find out if your grandpa can have pop-rocks. If he can, put that into the icing of your cake then watch him smile as he experiences the goodies popping in his mouth. He might enjoy that. I'm sure you will.

Good luck!

I don't have pictures anymore but I once did a cake for a lady who was having a b'day but was of a religon that did not celebrate so mom ordered a 'this is your life' cake.
It was 5 ft long and about 4" wide by 4" highicon_smile.gif At that time I had a Wilton 'long loaf' pan and made 3 of those, placed end to end for the length. I got a board (piece of lumber) 6" wide x 5 or 6' long to put it on icon_smile.gif The customer gave me many pix of the person from infant to present which I wrapped in plastic wrap and glued a toothpick on the back so they stood up and went the length of the cake. It truely is a *different* cake ideaicon_smile.gif
Word of caution if you try this - be sure how you are goin to transport it. We had a compact car and it took forever to get a piece of lumber that big in and out!
