im making a wedding cake and they wanted blood red roses..i cant seem to get my coloring right..they look really red but not the blood red they want..and when i add black it looks odd..does anyone have suggestions??or maybe somwhere i can buy them already made and in that color
I assume you're making buttercream roses. I'd just recommend using a lot of coloring until it's dark enough (they'll darken as they sit as well).
If you're ready to give up and purchase them, they can be found in your local hobby/craft stores, but they're about $1 each and rock-hard royal icing.
The last time I made red buttercream, I used red airbrush color for all the liquid in my recipe and the roses I made with it came out a dark blood red (they almost looked like Black Magic roses.)
What if you started out with chocolate buttercream? B/c red velvet cake is chocolate cake with tons of red food coloring....just wondering. B/c I know it takes a TON of food coloring to get a nice red. Same with black.... I made a minnie mouse for my daughter, and half way through mixing the black was like "Dang should of started with chocolate frosting." Anyways.... just wondering
