Wondering if and how to...?

I have never made decorated sugar cookies. I have read that it can take anywhere from 6 hours to 24 hours for certain icings techniques to dry- the outlining, the fill in process, etc. I am wondering if there is a tasty, fast drying icing/frosting that can be used to decorate cookies. Also, is using RI to outline the cookie, let it dry, then fill in the rest of the cookie with RI the same as what was taught by wilton called Color Flow? As I said I have no clue to any of this but I want to make some cookies for someone but is wondering if doing so by tomorrow is too late for a two color decorated sugar cookie. Help! TIA

You can use fondant. Just use the same cutter you used for the cokkies. When you put them in the oven, cut out the fondant pieces and as soon as them come out of the oven place the fondant on the cookies. It will heat up and adhere to the surface and viola! then you can use royal icing to add details. It dries quickly and doesn't get quite as hard as royal icing alone does.

I don't usually outline cookies if I am flooding them with royal icing, but you would want to let the outline set up before flooding and then let your base coat dry overnight before moving on. You will have less running this way.
