Good Morning everyone!
I have to make a 2 tier cake and would like to know how much in advance do I make the cake it will be 2 - tier zebra print with fondant and buttercream frosting. its very simply due this Saturday any suggestions on how much in advance I should make the cake.
Why don't you bake it now & freeze it until decorating day(Friday/ Saturday)... Stays fresh & moist
You don't even have to freeze it. If you bake it now, just wrap it in saran wrap until you are ready to decorate. I do this all the time and it works great. I have put cakes in the freezer, but I hate what they look like while still frozen, so I won't even attempt to defrost and use them now. lol
I don't agree w/not freezing it. Any cake over 3 days old just is not as good. It does not give the client time to keep any leftovers
If a cake is placed on a cookie sheet (or similar item) when put into the fzr it will not be distorted. Don't pull the plastic wrap *tight* enough to distorte the cake but just enough to make sure no air get to it.
If looking at a cake is what bothers one, simply put it in a cake box and don't open it until it has defrosted. I prefere to take it out of the fzr the night before it is needed so it is ready in the morning to be worked on. OR if you won't be working on it until say after work/evening then take it out before you leave for work/the day
I have the tupperware cake holders I was planning on using them to save the cakes because I never tried freezing cakes and I m afaid of how it will look and since I have 2 cakes for the same day i dont want to risk it
I freeze cakes all the time and have never had any issues. Actually I think that they are more moist. Also makes it easier to cut if cutting into a shape.

DITTO.
Double ditto. I purposely freeze all cakes, if even only for overnight. But a cake in the freezer for a month will still be wonderful.
