I am not professional cake baker. I make cakes for family and friends instead of buying them gifts. It gives me a chance to practice and play. I do not charge for my cakes and I do not makes cakes for people I'm not very close to. I got an email today from a gal (I have no idea how she even got my information) and here's what her email said........

"I'm looking for someone to do a choochoo train themed cake for my sons bday Feb 6 I like to give a lot of time so the cake person can be sure to do it right ( they still never get it right ) if you think you could do one and give me a price that would be good. My daughters is still a ways away but she is doing a mardi gra theme ideas on that cake would be appreciated to. I take my children's birthdays very seriously and the last 2 yrs my daughter was so disappointmented in how her cake came out she didn't eat it that is unacceptable to me"

Wow! Ummmm even if I was a professional and I was licensed I wouldn't want to take on this customer. She seems like someone who will never be satisfied. I gladly declined.

BTW, what young child would refuse her eat their bday cake two years in a row because it wasn't decorated to their standards? Either the child is a spoiled brat or the mother is exaggerating. Either way......run away from this customer! lol icon_rolleyes.gif

Well anytime someone is disappointmented, you know it's must be a pretty drastic situation. I always wonder when people sit down and write emails like that what they really think the response will be. Yes, I am perfect and super awesome so I know that all the disappointmentedness you have experienced the last 2 years will not occur with me, and I only charge $1 per serving, is this acceptable? We might be able to work with the price.. . Glad you declined.

Does she seriously think someone is going to start MAKING the cake now -- in NOVEMBER -- and keep "tweaking" it until it's "perfect" in February??? icon_confused.gif

wow! I have encountered people like this in different areas of my life also. I always feel bad for the kid. What they have to go through it breaks my heart. But I still wouldn't do a cake or any thing else for them

The kind that's being raised by a mother who writes e-mails like that one. I feel sorry for the woman's husband, his wife is creating a monster.

Run from this one.

I had someone like that. She wanted an amazing 3D cupcakes and wanted to pay next to nothing. She even asked if she could examine the kitchen I am working in. I decided if she is that demanding and wants to be cheap at the same time... not worth stressing me out. icon_smile.gif You did the right thing.. run away! :S

Sounds like she is setting the stage to try to get a free cake from someone and it's not going to be you! Run, run, run!

Since she askes for ideas for her daughter's cake as well, sounds more like she's wanting ideas for a baker she's already going to use or she'll make it herself and the story is just that, a story.

Thats hilarious! I bet she would expect you to do multiple sketches and a practice cake so that she could come approve it before you made the actual one, too. People are amazing...

Pity the baker who gets to make her daughter's wedding cake when she's all grown up - imagine what sort of bridezilla/momzilla they'll turn into! *shudder*
