So every time I make something out of gumpaste, it cracks or breaks when it dries. Am I doing something wrong? I want to make a crown using my cricut machine and then have it dry standing up instead of laying flat on the cake, but im afraid that as soon as it dries, it will break. Should I do 50/50 gumpaste fondant? Thanks in advance
It sounds like your gumpaste is too dry. What kind are you using or is it homemade? 50/50 would work well for you. Make sure you give it enough time to dry. Wilton gumpaste is pretty easy to work with and you can get it made and ready to use. I have heard it works well w/the cricut machine.
Good Luck
I would try 50/50 fondant/ gumpaste mix. I use both from Wilton and I have NEVER (yet) had a problem!! Although I have never used the Cricut machine. I rarely ever just use 100% gumpaste.
I had the same problem with my gumpaste, I started doing a 50/50 fondant gumpaste mix and it's been perfect. When I have something I need to dry faster and very stiff I use more of a 80 gumpaste / 20 fondant mix.
Thanks for the replies. I usually buy the wilton mix where you just add water, but have recently purchased the premade wilton gumpaste. I think I'll practice first using 50/50 and see what happens.
I have always used the 50/50 mix of Wilton Fondant/Gumpaste without problems but recently tried using the gumtex and my figures never really dried and they were very crumbly - I will return to the 50/50. No need to put myself thru that kind of stress, fortunately I was just testing the gumtex.
I always buy the pre made Wilton gumpaste once when Hobby lobby was out I got the mix and that did not work for me at all I ended up throwing it out
