When you do a practice cake, what do you do with it? Especially for the wedding or shower cakes. Someone has asked me to do a cake, and I'm going to do a practice cake, but I'm not really sure what to do with it when I'm done. It would be way too much cake for my family to eat...

I have had my dad and husband take them to work with them and share with coworkers. I might get some business that way! I have to make a practice cake next week and plan on taking it for my extended family to eat. I have to get it out of the house ASAP or I will start eating it and not stop. I have to big of a sweet tooth

you could always give to neighbors or friends too

My neighbor has three kids. They all love me because I give them cake.

find a church or shelter, or orginanization...they may be more than happy to take extra cake off your hands!

Thanks...usually I can take them to where my mom works, and someone will buy it within minutes, but with something so specific, I didn't know what to do with it...

don't try to sell it, just give it to someone. Get the word out that way! I don't know anyone to turn down free cake! Or if you don't want to waste money then just do a dummy cake, with all white icing. When it's done, scrape it off and use that icing to do the real one!

My husband is a police officer and a part time Sheriff's deputy too. I take them up to the dispatch desk in the police office, word gets around fast that there is food around!! Also I took my cakes to the bank, and the school for the teachers in their lounge. I have gotten lots of orders that way and now repeat orders for their cakes this year! It really does get around that there is someone that does cakes!! Especially in such a small rural community that I live in.

Take out an classified ad for2 weeks in your newspaper for you cakes, this has worked so well for me. I listed it with my website and I got calls that morning that the ad was out!

Hhmn, send them to me? Haha! Sorry, all of the suggestions you received are great, just be careful about advertising as this can get you fined in a lot of places.

Taking it to the school for the teacher's lounge/kitchen is a really good way to get rid of extra cake!! lol There aren't many women (and most teachers are women) who can resist good cake! Also, call one of your local nursing homes or senior citizens activity centers...they usually are happy to accept things like this. We have an Estuary (a wetland area) about 1/2 mile from our house and just down the road from there is the local Estuary Wildlife Center (they make sure the alligators, fish, and other local wildlife are not encroached upon) where there are about 15 workers daily. They've appreciated a cake from me before and if there's any leftovers, someone volunteers to take it home to their family. Just a few more ideas!

Taking to the school is a good idea-I do that. Or the neighbors. Anything to keep it from magically adhering to my hips!!!!

Also a note to add on to JennT's comment about the nursing home ideas. The nursing home that my grandfather is in does a monthly b day party with cake and all. They usually buy the cakes from a bakery but like to get donated cakes more! So whenever I am in town visiting i take them a sheet cake and they just love it to see mw with a large white box! I usually deco the cake according to the season or holiday for that month. I think I have a poc of october bday cake i did for the nursing home in my photos. Just thought that might help with your practice cakes too!!!

I take mine to our school for the teachers. I have had a few orders already for school events like classroom parties, birthdays, teacher retirements, etc. It can only drum up business for you. No one can resist a good cake, especially when it is free.

What if you took them to the local Boy's/Girl's club? Or somewhere else like that where there are unfortunate children who may have never had a birthday cake?

I would probably call first or go there in person(without a cake) and explain what you would like to do for them. I am sure they wouldn't turn down your generous offer!! It might be kind of awkward if you just showed up with a cake.

I usually take my cakes (and as a suggestion to the bride) to the rescue mission here in town. They appreciate it. They always tell me that they don't get much cake like that. And they are real good about keeping my plates for me and asking for a refill.

My church has two services every Sunday, so I can bring my cakes to church on Sunday for fellowship after the morning service, and for lunch after the late service. Also, the teachers at the kids' schools are always willing guinea pigs, as well as sending them to the DH's work. I can ALWAYS find someone to take a cake!
