I always been curious about this. do you think selling only cupcakes can make a profit or be really successful. How long do you think it will last since there is some many cupcake shops in mostly every state.

As long as you put together a business plan that shows you can price high enough to stay profitable and can differentiate yourself from the competition, you can make a profit selling cupcakes (or anything else for that matter).

Even in oversaturated markets there are still under-served niches that are willing to pay a premium for baked goods.

It would be a great business in my area. There are two within my large metropolitan city that are "known" and that's not nearly enough. I would have to drive 30 min to one and 45 to the other. I just wish I had more experience and the "know how" to start a cupcake storefront. It's so needed in my area.

I live in a town of 15 000 people, and a woman here opened a cupcake storefront. She also makes custom cakes.

Since opening, she has started selling coffee, she now has a lunch menu, and teaches classes, especially pushing kids' decorating classes on school holidays.

I hope she makes it, but the constant introduction of new stuff seems to me to be an indication that the cakes and cupcakes alone weren't paying the bills. I think she prices quite reasonably, but not cheaply. I don't think the flavour or the look of the cakes are anything special.

I don't think anyone could keep a shop going solely selling cupcakes here.
