Ok so someone asks you to do them a baby shower cake, they say to you do what ever you like im really not bothered what you do....and she doesnt know the sex of the baby...what kind of thing would you do?
Sarah
When is it for? Is it a fall baby shower? You can do seasonal ideas. There was a ridiculously cute baby in a pumpkin cake a few weeks ago... Is there a theme to the babies room? If not maybe just go with the mom's interests?
I had the same request at one point so this is what i did, its not brilliant. It was one of my first cakes, but I loved it at the time...

I just tend to think about what the mother might like, such as a baby theme or a belly or thongs more to do with adults. Then I just look around for elements of cakes I like and see if I can fit that in somewhere.

Wthat size and shape do you need? There are soooooo many neat ideas in the galleries! Have you checked that out yet?
Any idea what pattern she has chosen for the baby's room, or comforter set? Maybe duplicate her theme.
even match the invites to the baby shower. I just did a Beatrix Potter/Peter Rabbit themed shower.
Whatever you do you just make it multi colored, leaving out the distinct colors that would lean it towards a particular sex (i.e. pink, blue) stick with pastel, yellow & green.
Also you can use "themes" that could go either way as well, such as duckies.
here are a couple I have done that you could totally do something like but using the "in-between" colors.

Hi. Sarah. You could try doing a google picture search. like "baby shower cake" and should get lots of great ideas.
Marshmallow or frosting bubbles with yellow duckies is a tried and tested theme for baby shower cakes!
The pregnant belly cake seems to be all the rage lately. Rubber duckies, baby blocks, baby booties, baby rattles, gingham ribbons, and teddy bears are perfect for a boy or girl baby shower.
I loved making this one. And the mom-to-be was thrilled.
