Hi ladies and gents! I experimented with something and had really great results with it so I wanted to share it with you. I was working on a jack o lantern cake and the fondant I had made a few hours earlier had gotten very firm and hard to work with. After kneading it for five good minutes and trying to roll it out, I was very frustrated. I had the idea to pop it into the microwave for fifteen seconds. It came out much more pliable and roll out a thousand times easier. I hope this helps some of you!
That's a great tip! I almost always pop my fondant and modeling chocolate in the microwave for a few seconds. It makes it much easier on my poor aching muscles.
Last night I was going to attach some fondant lettering I had made earlier in the day and it too had firmed up to much. I got the hair dryer out and heated it on low for a few seconds to make it pliable again. That worked great too.
When I went through a wiltons class, my instructor told us to sit on the package for 5 minutes til it warmed up! LOL! I find the microwave much better.
Blow drying something that can't be microwaved is a great idea! I've never thought of that!
And sitting on it could be useful too... Maybe... If you're tired.

I microwave every piece of fondant I work with...
I even purchased a separate small microwave & cart just for fondant, so I don't have to keep walking to my kitchen.

Well... At least it worked in the class when we didn't have any other way!
My Wilton teacher told us the same. When we were asked to use those sealed packages of Wilton fondant, she told us to sit on them during our drive to the lesson so they would be pliable when we got there.
