The grand opening for my new cupcake bakery is next Saturday and I am super excited! I'm also really anxious to see how many people will show up! We are the first and only cupcake bakery in my entire county. There arent even any bakeries in the township I am in so I'm hoping we will get a big turn out.

Can anyone share some of their grand opening stories with me? Did you give away free cupcakes? Did you get media coverage? How did you prepare? Did you get a huge crowd! Let me know the scoop

I almost always here of new places handing out free cupcakes. The big store its usually 1000. We had a "Good Golly Miss Holly" open here recently and I think she gave away 250 and all the proceeds from the day went to a local girls home. Charity is a GREAT way to get local newspapers and TV to pick up your story. Good luck!

I just had the grand opening of my store front last Saturday after being open for 7 weeks. Massive turn out, line ups out the door pretty much all day. We gave away 36 dozen mini cupcakes and sold a total of 70 dozen large ones.

For advertising, I had an ad on the local radio for the week before and a quater page ad in the newspaper a couple days before. The night before I had ads on the big screen at the local hockey game. I'm in the downtown core so during the day of the opening, I had a bunch of people stand in the square handing out balloons with my business card attached.

This may seem like a lot of money on advertising but I defintely made it all back and will now have many more repeat customers
