I am making a heart-shaped anniversary cake for my parents and I have to make 25 fondant carnations. What would be a good idea on how to place them on the cake? What else would I do to add some extras to it beside the carnations? Help!

It depends. If you are not placing them on wires when making them you would dab a little buttercream and place them on the cake. If you are putting them on wires, I would group them in bunches o 2-4 flowers and wrap them in floral tap to minimize the holes to insert them in the cake. If you are doing a tiered cake, you could add a dummy tier and place flowers there. It really depends on the cake design.

As far as other extras, you could add leaves or other flowers you know how to make.

Thank you for such a quick reply! I think I will add some leaves, since I am not going to be using wire. It is just a 2 layer. (I'm making cupcakes too.)

I'm just worried since this is only the second cake I've done in fondant. (The first one I had my aunt's help. This one is all on my own.)

The cool thing about flowers and leaves is if you have any problems with the fondant (cracking or dry spots) you know where to put the flowers!

Well its the hard work is baking and icing any cake but there is always something you need to finish it off and make it extra special......so be carefull

I made my mum an anniversary cake in September and made roses, instead of putting them on the cake I stuck the board to a small stack of cardboard squares smaller than the board the cake was on, then stuck that onto a bigger cake board and put the roses underneath. Like the cake was sitting on the roses. It's probably not what you're after but its an idea.... its the blue and pink cake in my photos

I settled on an idea and the cake looked absolutely beautiful. I have pictures posted of the cake here. I kind of took a little bit of all suggestions and it worked out great in the end. Thank you all for your great suggestions!
