I made my first cake last weekend and it was a bit complicated (severed head in my photos), so I decided to try a 50/50 mix of fondant and modelling chocolate. I was intentionally trying to use up some old ingredients for this cake and had some old (8 month) satin ice white fondant and equally as old home-made modelling chocolate in the fridge. I mixed them together and go a beautiful workable icing. It got a bit greasy at first, but I worked a little PS in it and turned out great. I liked that when I add additional pieces to the cake I could work the fondant into itself without leaving a noticeable joint. It even tasted better.
I haven't seen much discussion about this on the boards, so I just thought I would share my experience.
I have been mixing mine like this for a while now. I just do not like the taste of fondant I have been making MMF for a little while now too and I tend to mix in the modelling chocolate with that as well. I do not know about the satin ice fondant, but I hear it is wonderful.
