Decorating By argylealice Updated 26 Oct 2011 , 8:49pm by LeeBD
Hi can anyone give me advice on covering a complete cake in melted chocolate.it is my 50th birthday in december and i would love to make myself a two tier chocolate cake covered with melted chocolate and chocolate dipped fruit with maybe some modelling choc roses.
I have only worked in fondant before so this is a new medium for me.it doesent have to be perfect because its for me but a would not want to make a complete hash of it and waste a load of ingredients. Also is there anything i can put into the chocolate to make it easier to cut when on the cake.
thanks any help appretiated
Take a look at the most recent cake in my gallery and see if it is anything like what you are wanting. Let me know if it is because it was the easiest thing I have ever tried and could be done so many different ways.
kimmisue2009 i had not thought about wrapping the chocolate round the cake, that works really well and looks stunning could you tell me how its done.thanks for your help
I would say either do ganache or the chocolate wrap.

Ganache is nice on a cake, and even great used on fruit, because the chocolate doesn't shatter when you bit into it.
I would suggest covering with ganache...it's very easy to do not to mention yummy. Chocolate wrap is pretty and will take more time. You will need acetate strips to get the best results.
