I want to color chocolate for the oreo cookies I am going to do and have never done it before. So I am at a lost as to where to get the different colors to use and how to do it. Any help is appreciated.

You have to purchase candy colors which are oil based..Wilton,Chefmaster,Americolor and Lorann sell candy colors. They must be oil based though as water based colors will seize the chocolate.

After the chocolate is melted, do you add the coloring till you get the right color you want?

Oil based you can just dump it, powdered you need to mix into a little chocolate (smash it against the table with your spoon or spatula to mash up the grains) then into the main mass.

I use powdered chocolate colours or cocoa butter based ones (for a more glossy effect). You can get these in the Home Chocolate factory, if you are based in the UK.

The other option is to use colored cocoa butter. Generally what I do is cover a mold in the colored cocoa butter, then pour the tasty chocolate on top of that. Works great, and you get a better color, IMO. I get my colored stuff from Chef Rubber.
