I've never used a cake dummy before but was requested to use one for a wedding cake. I have a 16"x5" round base that I plan to cover in fondant. My question is, "Does there need to be some adhesive type of covering on the fake cake base for the fondant to adhere to or will the fondant adhere to the styrofoam base without anything?" The rest of my cakes are lightly covered in buttercream and I will cover those with fondant. Just not famiiar with covering a styrofoam cake. Appreciate your help!
yes, you will have to put a thin coating of something on it for it to stick. I use piping gel. I've heard of people using shortening, but I don't have any experience with that.
I just covered 2 couple of days ago. I applied some warm water on it using a brush and they just stick
Oops, I just saw the more recent post. That's interesting about the warm water on the styrofoam. I wouldn't have thought the water would adhere to it, but since you have done that I may try that as well on a smaller practice dummy to see if it works for me. Thanks so much!
