Hello fellow cakers! Is there a way to make a fish net without using sugar veil? I'd hate to invest in it just for this project.
I have to Fedex the decorations only (cake provided by restaurant) for a nautical 50th bday cake for my cousin. I'm making gum paste/fondant items such as a small fishing boat, life savors, an anchor etc. and I'd like to include a fish net also. Since I'm not charging her for the decorations, I really don't want to pay for the sugarveil system.
Any ideas?
Or does anyone know if netting can be purchased on line?

You can buy the sugar veil mix and use it with a piping bag and not have to use the pen.

There is also a recipe on here, I haven't used it myself, but it is suppose to be flexible and can be used like sugar veil. Look in the recipe section for Gummy Spider Webs.

Here is also some unbreakable gel you can purchase.

I use TBK gumpaste mix (powder) you use 1/3 cup hot water to 1 cup mix. pipe on your design on parchment paper let dry overnight and then peel off. It's flexible and works great! Ive used it for spiderwebs. It comes in different colors too. I purchased mine from Bakers Kitchen.
