I am making my first mini 3 tiered cake for my daughters birthday tomorrow and have no idea if I should use dowels like I would in larger tiered cakes the sizes are 4x2, 3x2 and 2x2 inch rounds. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi, if it were me, I wouldn't try to dowel a cake that small. I'd be afraid of splitting the cake when inserting the dowel, but that's just me. Plus, if you aren't transporting it to another location, it should be fine without a dowel. Hope that helps icon_biggrin.gif

I have some wooden skewers that I use on my smaller cakes, they're very thin and do just enough to keep the top tiers from tipping. But I agree you wouldn't need one unless you're transporting it.

hello, in my opinion, i would use the wooden skrewers, just because you know when the kids get excited around the cake table icon_lol.gif . just to be on the safe side icon_lol.gif . good luck and happy birthday to your baby. thumbs_up.gif

I'd just stick a skewer down the center... I do 6" tall tiers from time to time and they don't need dowels inside unless another heavy tier is going on top, and where you are doing such little tiers... there will be hardly any weight at all from the top tiers.

You could also use regular drinking straws if you don't have any skewers.
