I need a more efficient way of portioning out and storing my cookie icing. Right now I have 6 tupperware bowls of different colors that I am putting into decorating bags as I need that color. Then I try to do all of that color and consistency at once. But inevitably, I end up needing it again later on. I would like to be able to make up all my colors and put them in the bags ready to be used. The problem is this: I can't figure out how to store them in the bags without having icing run out the tips and leave a mess! I also don't have enough tips.

I've thought about bottles and will try them but I'm worried about control for outlining and flooding with one consistency. Plus I'll have to order them since I can't find any around here. I've also thought about getting those wilton's tip covers, but does the icing still flow out of the tip and then make a mess in the covers?

Does anyone do anything different? It's such a pain to make and fill as I go!

There are some little plugs for the icing tips you can buy - I think I've seen them in the Wilton section at H/L. Not sure how air tight they are. Maybe someone on here has tried them.

Those tip covers stink. They don't fit your tips. Either you have to shove them on or you they are too loose, depending on the size.

I stick my bags in a tall glass with a damp paper towel at the bottom.

I don't recommend that you store your icing in bags, if you are talking about royal icing because it seperates and needs to be stirred before you can reuse it. I just keep mine in small glass bowls and restir before I but it in a clean disposable bag. When I have lots of color I make my bags in advance. Just insert your coupler, trim the end, and add the tip or not. You can store them and use them as you need them

I'm really looking for a way to organize before I start decorating. I need a way to put all the bags and colors together at the beginning of the day and have it last for 48 hours. I feel like it takes so long and isn't efficient to put a color in a bag then do that color. Then another color. Then another. Then go back and thicken up the icing for details and put it in a fresh bag, because it's too messy to use the bag I used early...

I'm big on efficiency and cookie decorating seems to be one of those things I can't figure out how to do efficiently!
