Hello everyone, Im going to do a castle cake using the wilton castle set. The instructions say to make the cake using 10x2 and 6x2 pans, isnt it pretty small? I was wondering how many servings is that? And has anyone done this type of cake and made it a bigger size? And can I get a few tips please. This is my first actual cake im making for someone and I want it to come out beautiful. Thank you all in advance.

The castle cake in my profile isn't made with the Wilton set but it is the size you are describing. How many people do you need to serve. I thought it made quite a bit of cake.

I've made this cake a couple of times. Using the 6" and 8" double layer rounds, you should get 36 servings according to Earlenes cake cutting chart. I have also made it using 8" and 10" double layer rounds which served 60. I would not recommend going any bigger than that as it might look strange. If you need it even larger you could do the 6" and 8" castle and add a 10" at the bottom decorated to look like a field of grass and add some flowers. I hope this helped, good luck!

I have made it a couple times. The cake size is a little small the square one is okay but I found it a pain to try and use all the towers on the round cake. The biggest problem was stability, the towers are top heavy especially after frosting and sugar crystals and they are not completely flat on the bottom., (with the seam) The second time I used it I drilled holes in the bottoms of the towers and put dowels in them, had no problem. If you haven't bought it yet think about using cardboard paper towel spools and ice cream cones for the towers. I haven't made one this way but have seen one and it looked great. hth

Sorelle, what kind of dowels did you use? The wooden or plastic ones?
