So I'm trying to cover the cake dummies and my fondant keeps cracking, especially at the edges. I'm using Duff's fondant which I have used before and never had this problem. I am using the same amount of conf. sugar on the mat that I always do, the cakes dummies are covered in shortening and I went over the edges so they are rounded. I'm getting very frustrated because I have 4 tiers and I already tried 3 times. Any suggestions.

I have used Duff's fondant for deco's , but not to cover. Why don,t you try to knead it really good again, put little crisco on mat, instead of powder sugar. The worse side of the fondant goes upward. roll out a large as you need(be sure crisco is out as far as you need to roll. Then pick up mat gently and place over cake gently . Rub top with your hand or fondant smoother and then peel off gently. The do the rest of the smoothing out the fondant on the cake. My friend kept having trouble , using 10 sugar on the mat. I told her this way, and it went on very nice. It was Satin Ice fondant. But it was just giving her trouble using the powder sugar. good luck hth We were working on real cake and not dummy. I believe it will work good for you doing it this way.
