I use plastic containers from Target. (The only place I have found them)
They are about 13" x10" inside measurement. They come in 2 containes, and are $11.95 for the set.

Then my husband cut holes in some (well he used corrigated plastic here) but foamcore would work. He made a pattern, pre-drilled with small drill, then use a drill that cut door knob holes in doors. That is the only way I know how describe this cutter. That is what I have seen them used for. Anyway I hope you know what I mean. The cupcakes fit nice into these hole. I have also put some small pieces of styrofoam on the bottom of the insert to hold the insert up from the bottom of the container so the cupcake will sit a little lower.

I transport about 180 cupcakes to farmers market and don't have many problems with them tipping or sliding. Did have one castrophe, My 11 year old granddaughter dropped a box, she felt so bad that I didn't have the heart so say anything to her, but that was ok. She was crying right along with me. Bless her heart, I love her.

That's great and all, but why not just use cupcake boxes? You can get them cheap and there's no extra work involved. BRP has excellent boxes with inserts for cupcakes, as do many places that sell cake boxes.

I too buy my boxes online that have pre-made inserts...So easy and really not to expensive if you buy in bulk..Plus customers love to be able to take them to safely transport their cupcakes when they pick up

I buy my cupcake boxes online as well. I recently ordered boxes and inserts for single cupcakes and they have been a big hit for customers who use them as favours . They have little windows and are so cute

I do up to 4 farmers markets a week. I wanted something more durable and permanent. It would cost me too much to use boxes. I have boxes for my customers to take cupcakes home in. Those boxes with inserts ( I don't care if they are bought in bulk can get expensive. Besides, I want to display my cupcakes, not hind them in cardboard. I have another trick with see through lids so the customers can see my product. That makes them want to buy more, when they can see what your product is. Any chef would tell you that you eat with your eyes first. For me, it is the best thing for farmers markets!

Shirt boxes are way too flimsy when you are carrying 60 cupcakes. How many boxes would you need!. Not only do you have to buy inserts, but you have to buy something to stabilize the bottom.
The only work to mine, is cutting out the insert, once thats done, you are home free. Mine have lasted over 2 seasons and not showing any wear, and I don't have to store a box of boxes.

I can see the usefulness if you are using them as your display cases as well as transport.

You are lucky though that they aren't inspecting since those boxes aren't NSF rated and wouldn't be considered "safe" for food.

I think its an awesome idea and wish I had one...that way I wouldnt have issues with the boxes getting crushed or something like that. Do you think your hubby would make me a couple....you know since you've already got the pattern for the holes down?!?!?!?! LOL

Do the cupcakes fit with the top closed? It's a great idea! It also provides an airtight container that the cc's can stay in overnight and keeps them a little fresher than hanging out on a counter. Thanks for the idea!
