My cake never made it! - Page 2

A couple of years ago I made a cake for my inlaws 50th wedding anniversary. 3 tiers stacked. Dowel rod through the center. Cake sitting in the back of my suv on a flat surface on a non skid mat. Hubby had to slam on the breaks. Cake slid entirely off the board and and landed tilted against the back of the front seat! The amazing thing is while there was a little damage to the fondant I was able to pick up the entire cake and put it back on the board. Stopped at a walmart and got a bucked of Wilton butter cream and was able to fill in the cracks. Lesson learned? I now make sure that the center dowel rod goes into the base! The cake board didn't move an inch! Love those non skid mats. : )

I don't have an SUV and most of my tiered cakes won't fit on the floor of the passenger side (the top would hit the glove box), so I stack a couple books on the seat so it's level, put the non-skid liner on it and I have never had one move an inch, that's what works for me. of course I drive super careful so I don't have to stop suddenly.
