I'm so bummed, my beautiful cake slid out of the box onto to floorboard of my car upside down! I was so proud of this baby shower cake icon_cry.gif I'm still scrapping buttercream out of my car! All my hard work ruined in a bilnk of an eye! Just needed to vent, I feel better now.

I feel your pain! How disappointing! It happened to me once too and it is a helpless feeling. So sorry it happened to you.

That's so horrible! I am so afraid of ever moving a cake that I've thought about building some sort of contraption that will go in the back of my SUV to keep the box from moving...then what if I get rear ended...oh no. Well, looks like I'll be having my wedding reception at home since I'll be too afraid to leave the house with the cake icon_razz.gif

I'm so sorry about your cake! I just shipped a cake for the first time to California, this past Friday to my niece. I was supposed to send a gumpaste high heel and a purse cake. It rained the entire week here and the shoe crumbled into pieces, couldn't send that, I packed the cake in 3 boxes, 1 plastic, 2 cardboard with the mailing peanuts, bubble wrap and newspaper. I even wrote all over the box perishable, fragile, and this side up with arrows. The cake arrived to my dear niece at her job and it looked liked it had imploded from within, she thought this was how it was sent, she said "that's how real purses look with out the stuffing". I just wanted to cry. I encourage you this was just one of those times of stuff just happened. I figure, this was a painful learning experience that I'm just going to have to laugh at thumbs_up.gif . Best Wishes!

how could it have slid out of the box and onto the floor...did you have it sitting on the seat?

Best to put cake on a flat surface. I have an SUV, so cakes go in the way back. I often put Rubbermaid shelf liner (the mesh kind) under the box and/or push the cake box into a corner behind the seat and wrap a dedicated blanket around the exposed sides. No slipping.

Shelf liner should be placed IN the box underneath the cake, and another piece under the box on a flat surface in the car for double insurance.

I have to agree with everbody here. You need a flat surface and the liners would also help. Sorry this happened to you.

Next time go to the Dollar store and buy a roll of non skid. I put a piece under the cake board and box to make sure it stays in place and never place a cake on a car seat. Needs to be flat on the floor.

That happened to be as well, but it was with wedding cake icon_sad.gif had to slam on the breaks to avoid hitting another car and cake ended up on the floor

Me - empty trunk w/ half backseat down so air conditioning can get there. Never on seat. If small, front-passenger floor.

Cake *starts* on the floor. Doesn't end up there.

A couple of years ago I made a cake for my inlaws 50th wedding anniversary. 3 tiers stacked. Dowel rod through the center. Cake sitting in the back of my suv on a flat surface on a non skid mat. Hubby had to slam on the breaks. Cake slid entirely off the board and and landed tilted against the back of the front seat! The amazing thing is while there was a little damage to the fondant I was able to pick up the entire cake and put it back on the board. Stopped at a walmart and got a bucked of Wilton butter cream and was able to fill in the cracks. Lesson learned? I now make sure that the center dowel rod goes into the base! The cake board didn't move an inch! Love those non skid mats. : )

I don't have an SUV and most of my tiered cakes won't fit on the floor of the passenger side (the top would hit the glove box), so I stack a couple books on the seat so it's level, put the non-skid liner on it and I have never had one move an inch, that's what works for me. of course I drive super careful so I don't have to stop suddenly.
