Ok so I just spray VIOLET americolor spray paint onto my marshmallow fondant covered cake and as when you take a picture (two different cameras AND camera phones) it is NAVY BLUE. WTH! No idea what is going on! The cake is VERY purple and as soon as the camera is placed infront of the cake not taking a picture yet just looking at the screen on the camera its already BLUE! I am mystified!

I had the exact same thing happen to me a few weeks back. I used the Americolor as well. I had to go with the Wilton Violet in order not to have the same problem.

I've had the purple/blue problem with both Americolor and Wilton. I have read posts on here that if you add a small amount of pink, it will hold the purple, but I haven't tried it yet.

Chefmaster makes a no fade purple , no fade ribbon pink and another one(can,think of that one) i think it is another no fade pink. hth

I think she's saying it's purple in real-life but looks blue in the camera.
If you actually take the photo does it still look blue or is it purple in the photo? Can you adjust the color of your photo?

I had that problem with the log grass wedding cake I made for my cousin last summer. In my photos it looks like a brownish green but the cake was actually more of a lime green. What my mom and I called the ugly cake just got uglier but who am I to judge that is what she wanted so that it was she got. She loved it so as long as she was happy I was happy.

Have you tried Americolor Regal Purple. This is what I used last time and it worked great.

Was the flash off or on? I had that the other day with a lavender colored cake looking blueish. I took a shot with the flash off and that helped.

From what I understand the camera not picking up the purple has to do with the lighting you are using and with your camera settings. I am not a professional but I was doing some research regarding creating your own light boxes in order to take more professional looking pictures. In doing the research I came across information on that.

its probably the white balance of your camera. Set the white balance to the lighting you're using and/or use a grey card (google it )

I was taught to always add a little pink when you are trying to get purple...

For the camera, it could be the lighting... I always have trouble getting nice pictures on my camera.

alot of point and shoot camera have a place where you can change lighting as in out door, indoor, florescent, ect I think mine has a total of 5 or 7 setting you can get the cake in the view finder and the switch through different lighting setting until you find the one that works best. I made a purple cake and had to do that too
