Gumpaste Roses Keep Sliding Off The Floral Wire

I dried the rosebud overnight and after making a full rose, I hang it upside down. Then later, the flower started to slide down the wire. I did bend the wire and dip it in gumpaste +water
Could it be because I was using a blend of gumpaste and fondant?
It sounds like the bud didn't harden up enough on the wire before you put the petals on. Because it was a mixture of fondant and gumpaste it may have needed to be left longer than overnight.
There might have been too much water on the wire. Did you shake it off a little after you dipped it?
It could also be that you didn't let it harden long enough. 50/50 does take longer than straight gumpaste.
You should also make a very tiny hook at the end of the wire. Push the end without the hook into the top of the bud and pull through the bud. The hook will "grab" inside the bud. Also dip the end of wire with the hook in a little egg white (or edible glue) before you insert into the bud. HTH.
PS - the hook needs to be very tiny and you need to push it slightly together with some pliers.
It also helps if the wire is fabric coated. I let my buds dry for 48 hours before using and then I add the first row of petals and let dry for another 8 hours or so before adding more petals. I sometimes add as many as 16 - 23 petals in one of my full roses and they are very heavy and I have had no problem with them staying on the wire. You can take a look at some of my photos and see some of the roses I have done this way.
Another trick is not to use edible glue but actually heat the wire and then stick in the cone. I discovered this trick from someone here a couple of years ago and it works great.
You can get a mini-torch but I just use a fireplace lighter. Bend the wire so it has a hook on the end and put it into the yellow portion of the flame and let it get red hot. Then push the cone onto the hook. It smells like you are roasting marshmallows. The best part is that they are ready to use as soon as they cool, almost immediately.
Yeah I saw that thread last night about heating the wire!! Thank you very much
What is making me bonker now, in Cake Boss - he just stuck the flower with wire into the cake?!?! I thought that is a no-no?
