Sponge/genoise Cake And Fondant...will It Be Ok?

Hi Everyone,
I am wondering if you have used Genoise/Sponge cakes under fondant? Will the cake hold up? It will likely have a fruit type filling (not whole fruit) and I know I have to create a dam with buttercream.

Yes it would, I do it all the time But make sure your fondant is rolled out as thinly as possible.
