I just tried the new Betty Crocker cake mix and was completely dissatisfied with the results! I am making big 1/2 sheets and usually only have to use 3 boxes of mix per half sheet and they rise up good and I can trim them down to get a nice smooth top but today when I did them with the smaller mix the cake barely bumped up and the sides were really low!! I had to redo the cake with another box of mix (so 4 total) because the first one I did was not tall enough for me to use. what a waste! I think if your doing smaller cakes it's not as noticeable but when working with a large amunt of mix its VERY noticeable! Has anyone else used the new mixes? What are your opinions?
I have used the mixes and found no difference except maybe it doesn't make quite as much batter as before.Didn't notice the rising thing but I could see that happening..I find that the larger the slab cake pan the corners always slump meaning don't bake up even with the rest of the cake..even with bake even strips too..
Wow! That's my favorite brand to use. Thank you for the heads up. I have an aniversary cake to make this week to feed 200. Better get more mixes. Of course I am using the wasc recipe, how do you think that will measure up?
