Having a very tough time finding Wilton Black candy melts. I read in their website that they are mainly available during Halloween time but I've had no luck. Have any of you had better luck?

I got them at Micheals last year... I haven't seen them yet this year but I'm waiting too

Really? I've seen them all year long at the Wilton's website. We were talking about them a while ago and we checked the site and sure enough, they were there.

I'm in southern California and just talked to my local Michaels manager the other day. He said the store had not received ANY candy melts for the past month because of the heat. He said I should check back in a few weeks.

I hadn't even thought about stores having the "no shipments of candy melts during the hot months" problem just like the hobby bakers, but it sure makes sense.

I just bought black candy melts at my local JoAnn's this weekend. They also had some really cool "lime" green ones - can't wait to try them for my Halloween projects!

Yes I also have seen them at Walmart and JoAnns.. I bought the last two packs at JoAnns and the cashier told me they are going fast Hope you find some!!

bakencake--no problem. Doesn't change the product in any way except it's in a giant glob instead of little, easy to handle wafers. Just whack the glob with a straight-edged knife and get the amounts you need.

On all my candy projects, I end up with leftover melted candy and just pour it out on Reynolds Freezer Paper (shiny side up), parchment, or waxed paper and thin it with a spatula. Let it dry, then break up and put in a zip lock bag.

That's why my Michael's doesn't have any black melts. Customers don't like getting a giant glob and think the candy melts are bad.

They have been recieved at Walmart, joanns and Michaels here but when I get there, they just have an empty box! I did find some at Zurchers, a local party supply store. If you have something like that in your area, you should check it out! They had lots!

I'm in the Chicago area and waiting for the black too. I checked at Michael's and Joann's last week and they didn't have them yet.

imagenthatnj, i ordered them in May for my grandson's cake. Did not get them. Money was sent back. I called, they said they would not have them until halloween. Thats all i know. Haven,t tried to reorder.

I looked in Michaels and they didn't have them but Joann had them on sale for $2.24 for the 8 oz. bag.

If you are able to buy from CK wholesale, they have some there, I bought 10 lbs two weeks ago

Not trying to ruffle any feathers out there but, Um, has anyone thought of buying dark brown ones and adding a bit of black candy coloring? That's what I do...just sayin!

Over in my area the local cake supply stores carry them pretty much year round. One of them that ships is called Orange Novelty Cake Supplies in Santa Ana, CA. Good luck!

You can use the dark brown or chocolate brown candy melts or chocolate and add black food coloring to it too

I don't know if you have a "Bulk Barn" where you live, but from what I remember, they have every color under the sun, in bulk!

Michaels in some states are about to start getting a fresh shipment of candy melts soon.

"Stores in a small group of states (FL, GA, AL, MS, LA, TX, AZ, NM, NV, OK, CA,) are still turned off due to heat; these stores will start receiving candy by 10/15/11 (sooner if it cools off)."

has anyone tried using these black candy melts to make the candy clay modeling chocolate? i need to do a face mask for a football helmet -- looking for an alternative to the fondant/tylose i've used in the past. especially since i need "extras" . do you think the modeling chocolate would be sturdy enough for this? tia!

You can use them, but please note that the package of black is less than the regular packages of candy melts. I know with the Wilton Candy Clay recipe you need to either use part of another package or less corn syrup.

thanks TexasSugar! still trying to locate the black in my area but this seems like a good alternative for the masks.
