#SweetGenius Tonight! Tune in To #FoodNetwork - Page 2

I think these shows try to be so over the top, that it missed his mark, he seems like a lovely persom, am listtening to his live training/webinar right now on another cake site and he is very nice and unassuming. The show was ok, I'm glad the lady without training won. Unfortunately these shows and their judges are so pretentious that it rubbed off on Ron a little. I will watch again to see the creative pastry bakers.

I. too, love him and was also disappointed with the show. I was hoping it was an instructional show, not a contest, which i do not particularly enjoy. If it is going to be like this, i will probably not watch it either.

Mr. Israel make MARVELOUS cakes though - I have been on his website

I DVR'd it and watched it today and was very disappointed also. I probably will not watch again.

I knew it was a competition, will watch gain, hope it gets better, the surprise extra ingredient is way over the top.

Very Disappointed. Probably won't watch again. Although Ron Ben-Israel was/is playing a "serious" role, he most likely is laughing all the way to the bank. I was really hoping to learn something.

Wow, I had a totally different opinion than the rest of you! Although Ron Ben Israel was being overly serious, especially when he hits that cake button icon_lol.gif , I thought he was doing it kind of tongue-in-cheek, like the Chinese guy on Iron Chef.

I really liked the amount of technique and explanation each contestant conveyed, unlike the FNC cake shows where it just shows them working and doesn't really explain anything. I came away from this knowing how to make jelly worms and chocolate sand!

There wasn't a lot of trash talking and snarkiness between the contestants, and they weren't made to use totally disgusting ingredients like they are on Cupcake Wars (e.g. seaweed and squid ink).

I definitely plan to watch it every week.

I'm watching the 2nd episode as I write this, I really enjoy the show although the stupid ingredients tick me off, lol

I was lucky enough to be at the party for the premiere of his show. Chef Ron Ben-Israel was there, along with food network execs, and some amazing pastry chefs. We all got to view the show as Ron watched it himself for the first time. The whole audience was laughing. Including Ron. Its definitely serious judging done with a bit if hilarious flare.

I'll definitely be watching the show again.

Just FYI: Masaharu Morimoto on Iron Chef is Japanese.

Have a glorious day!

There. Their. They're not the same.

I hope I die before "your" becomes the official contraction of "you are."

I think she was referring to the nimble host of Iron Chef, not Masaharu Morimoto.

Oh, sorry, JGMB meant the Nimble Chairman, played by Mark Dacascos (actually Filipino, Spanish, Chinese, Irish, and Japanese ancestry) (which I just learned by Googling him).

I found Ron-Ben to be a little creepy on the show. He's a consummate cake artist not some weird TV host. I'm sick of competition shows. Hey... let's see actual technique why don't we? Devote the time and effort to instruct...not just see how someone can work a weird ingredient into something no one will ever eat anyway! I was DVRing it...now I'm not.

If I am ever on life support, unplug me...

Then plug me back in.  See if that works!

While I highly admire and respect Mr. Israel's cake artistry and skills, I was very dissappointed in the show and won't be watching again. I felt that he came across as kind of creepy and wierd; I'm sure that is not the case in the "real" world.

I watched it last week, and while I have nothing but total respect for RBI, he came across as a complete a$$ on the show. I'll be avoiding it.

I found the show tedious and strange.
