I'm not sure how to post links or pictures, I've tried several, SEVERAL times & I can't seem to figure it out. So I posted the picture on flickr & just grabbed the link.
Anyway, I need to make this boat. WHAT are the metal things holding up the roof & WHERE can I purchase them?

Couldn't you just purchase some heavy gauge wire and cut to your desired length and shape?

They look really shiny. If they are metal, my guess would be either stainless steel or aluminum. What about some sort of thich pasta painted with the airbrush silver sheen?

Why not use wooden skewers covered in fondant then painted silver? The ones in the picture look metal to me. You could achieve a very similar look using the wooden skewers.

i have made a boat cake before, and i used metal skewers and heavy gauge wire from the craft store... it wasn't very easy to work with, but it got the job done!

I really like the sound of the heavy gauge wire. BUT, if I do choose to use this, will the weight of the gum paste 'roof' cause the wire to bend, you think? I have some skewers I can use in case this happens, but would rather use the wire.

I'd use Toothpicks painted with silver edible paint.
