Overwhelmed-How Long Can I Leave Cake Out After Decorating
Decorating By sharon45 Updated 20 Sep 2011 , 11:06pm by TMcakes2011
I am in over my head. I have a wedding cake and a tiered grooms cake for 275 guests that I'm doing for a friend. I am not a professional, so I do not have a ton of refrigerator/freezer space.
My question is, can I decorate and stack the tiers on Friday if the cakes are to be delivered Sat? They are both buttercream filled/covered. No fondant.
My concern is, once they are decorated, I will have no room to put them back in the fridge. Will it be ok? Any other ideas?
If you make a cake for home use, do you instist your family eat it all in one day ? NAWWWWW ..... it sits there for several days until they finish it off..... Unless you have a filling that requires refrigeration, it will be fine.....
Yes, it will be fine. In fact you can decorate them as early as Wed, but it's best to wait as close to Fri as you can
As long as your fillings aren't perishable (custard, fresh fruit, etc), they should be perfectly fine!
My concern is, once they are decorated, I will have no room to put them back in the fridge.
Back in the fridge? They don't need to be in the fridge in the first place... you can freeze your baked layers until you need them, but the refrigerator will dry them out. Once iced, they're fine at room temperature.
Hmmm. So I guess when I run out of freezer room I shouldn't put them in the fridge until I'm ready to decorate. Drat. I guess I need to figure out a plan B!
If you cool them and then deliver them out of the refrigerator, condensation will form and you risk colors bleeding.
I was just referring to the comment about the fridge drying them out. If I wrap them and keep them in the fridge (when I run out of freezer room, which I will) until I am ready to ice and decorate, will they dry out? I figured that part would be ok. Shows you what I know...
ok so this is my first post. Hello all!! I have an embarasing question....I babysit young children and I unfortunatly have flies. (Kids going in and out) My question is if I leave my cake out after being decorated can it be covered with plastic wrap or something else to ensure that the flies dont touch it. I know it sounds gross and I do spray but they are coming through the walls!! Yikes Thanks for the help in advance.
