I am going to be making a cake that will be Thor's Hammer. I am not sure if we will be doing it gold/bronze or silver yet but know that I am going to need to order something to achieve the metallic look I am going for. Has anyone ever used Platinum dust the gold or silver sold on Global Sugar Art? Also I say some metallic sprays on there as well....can anyone recommended a good product to achieve a nice metal look.

buy/use highlighter, mixed with a bit of vodka, the colour is rich and work much better than luster dust.
if you have an airbrush use the americolor metallic sheens, they work wonders! icon_smile.gif

If it's going to be eaten, then highlighter dust is OUT. It's for non-edibles/decoration only.

I love the Platinum dusts by sugarpaste.com because they're edible. No, they're not as metallic as the highlighter, but no worries about consumption.

I also appreciate the ease of application with the edible PME & ChefMaster metallic sprays and I'm happy with the results--as are my clients.

This was done with the ChefMaster silver spray and the guests at the party thought it was a real kitchen pot....

blakescakes...I have never used the spray...would you color the fondant gray first then spray it? Or is this something that eliminates the need to color the fondant? Also have you tried a gold color spray? Thank so much for the advice

I've used Duff's silver on the guitar cake I did in my photos )on all the screws/dials/etc...they came out super realistic.

I made the "YOU ROCK DAD" cake with gray fondant and modeling chocolate then used the wilton silver pearl dust. (the hand was modeling choc and letters/chain were fondant.)

I've heard that the silver spray Duff makes works well, but a can doesn't last very long...that can get expensive if you need alot.

Best of luck!

I do color the fondant. The fondant for the pot was a pale grey. I've used the gold on very small items and colored my fondant with Americolor gold gel for those.
