I got an order this weekend for a nurse themed layer cake. The client wants a 13 layers chocolate cake. The cake has 13 very thin layers and a boiled, thin, chocolate frosting. The frosting thickens up as it cools but I am wondering if I can cover this cake with fondant after it cools, so I can decorate it? I am worried that the cake may not support the weight of the fondant. I usually put in some dowels to support the layers from sliding anyway, so will this maybe help the cake to hold the fondant on? I am about to start on it and I need help! icon_lol.gif

you def should be able to! just make sure that after a few layers put some dowel rods and then a cake board and keep going! then of course cover your cake with the fondant

Thanks! I am going to go for it. I think it will be okay but I didn't want to make a disaster out of it, lol.

If it's the boiled frosting you're not sure about you could switch it for ganache perhaps? As long as the frosting is stable, then the 13 layers of cake should be fine.
