I want to make a buttercream with 1/2 butter and 1/2 crisco to cover a cake. What kind of butter have you guys had success with? Is there a certain brand you use? Alot of recipies say unsalted but when I am looking at butters they all have salt. Thanks!
Just use whatever butter you like. I use whatever they sell at costco, because it saves me money. They do sell unsalted butter. (they sell that at costco too). But unsalted butter goes bad faster and I don't use it in anything else, so I just use salted butter and then don't put in the pinch of salt that a lot of people use in their frosting. Hope this helps
I use salted for the same reasons as Sarahjane. I always use Land of Lakes. It's inexpensive and has good taste. My deco instructor also recommended this brand to the class, but I had been using it for quite awhile anyway. Good luck! Gil
I never bought real butter before I came to CC.
I always used the wilton all crisco recipe. So now that I know better I buy the land o lakes and since this is the only thing that I use it for I buy the unsalted butter. taste great.
Also it works out in my favor because I had/have cancer and one of the scans that I have to do is a no-iodine diet and for 3 weeks so when i prep for my scan I can use this to add some flavor to my food.
I use the Land o'Lakes as well in the regular version. I like using the salted butter because it cuts the super sweetness from BC. And I have yet to have a complaint. But you should find one that works for you. Salted butter doesn't go bad as fast as unsalted either.
