I've always used homemade MMF for all my cakes because it tastes good and it's pretty cheap to make. Sometimes I wonder if I would get better results using a different fondant. What is everyone's favorite kind of fondant to use? If you buy it, where and how much is it? Thanks everyone!

I like SatinIce - Buttercream flavor. Here's a secret (that a lot of us on here do) Mix the BC flavor SI 50/50 with Wilton. You get great flavor, great workability and overall lower price.

If I mixed MMF with Wilton's, will I get the good taste of MMF, but the stability of Wilton? Or will it be soggy and taste bad?!

I almost always us MMF too, but I found a crazy good deal on Fondx, so I tried that on my last cake. The plus side was that it was softer and really easy to smooth imperfections - that I really liked. The downside was that the humidy REALLY effected it and made it sweat, even though my cakes were are room temp. I think I may try mixing the 2 of them next time. And by the way, the Fondx tasted really good!

All I have around me is JoAnn, Michaels, AC Moore and Hobby Lobby - no cake shops, so I am stuck with home-made, MMF, Wilton or Duff.

Plus I'm in Florida, so sweating would be bad.

I've only made my own MMF, until my last cake. I needed it to be really white so I bought Wilton at Hobby Lobby. I was amazed at how EASY it was to use and how NICELY it smoothed. I'm not one to eat fondant, so I didn't taste it to see if it was tasty. My kids were eating the scraps, so it can't be too bad. But I love Leah's advice to mix Satin Ice and Wilton. That would greatly reduce the price. Good luck!

Satin Ice is usually cheaper than wilton (online anyway) and I hate the texture of wilton fondant. It's like soft airheads candy... just odd to me. The flavor is less than nice too.

In my opinion, the commercially prepared fondants are easier to work with than MMF. I am not a fan of MMF on the whole as I find it to be a lot like wilton... spongy and too elastic. Satin Ice isn't bad and can be a good starting point as it isn't overly soft. Fondariffic is a pain to work with and expensive too. I like Fondx. It's mid range on price and it works like a dream. I used to make fondant (Michele Foster's Recipe) and, while it works great, it's not the same as what you can buy.

I know people use wilton fondant, but I hate the stuff. It doesn't roll out as nicely as other brands and the taste I can't get over. It's not as bad as it used to be, but it's still not good.

I use the MMF and I love it! Also, everyone loves the taste of MMF as do I. I find it very easy to work with. I do NOT like the wilton fondant-just doesn't taste very good, too sweet.

I use michelle foster's fondant as there aren't any cake supply stores nearby and I really hate to pay shipping. It works well for me.

I was looking at the fondx online. It comes in a 2.2 lb container. How big of a cake does this cover??

The cake I made this weekend was a 7, 10, 13, 16 square, and I used 6 of the 2.2 Fondx containers.

I used Wilton's at first but no one liked it. Nothing else was available in my area so I started making my own mmf. I didn't like the hastle and wanted to cut down on prep time so I ordered Satin Ice online. It's so easy to work with, convenient for me and everyone raves about how good it is.

I don't like the elite version of Fondx fondant. It has an odd flavor... faint raspberry... and I don't care for it. I buy the regualr Fondx in the 10lb tubs, and roll it nice and thin. It covers a lot more cake than you'd think.
