Help!!!! With A Seashell Themed Wedding Cake!

Hey guys could really us your help with this one! I'm going to make the seashells out of molds just fondant and gumpaste. The bride wants them casscading down the one side of the cake, Im worried that they will be heavy does anyone have ideas as to how tostick them to the cake

You could stick a skewer or toothpick into the back of them before they dry and then stick them into the cake with those so they'd be more anchored and less likely to fall off. You may even want to put them into the seashells at a little bit of an angle so that you can push them in with the toothpick/skewer at a downward angle into the cake to hold better. Will the cake be covered in fondant or buttercream?

the cake will be covered in fondant. Thanks for the great tips! I'm just really worried abou the weight of them on the cake. I also plan on putting the shells on at the venue.

mom...here's a website that I saved some time ago that deals with seashells cascading down a cake. The bride ended up going in another direction so I didn't get to make the seashell cake but you can see the effect. The site sells a tutorial for $3 but it looks like the shells were just attached to the fondant (probably with royal icing).

I use chocolate to attach heavier decorations on the sides of fondant cakes. Once the chocolate dries, it's stuck!!! icon_biggrin.gif

I like the use of chocolate...tastes better than royal icing...

I made my sea shells from fondant and they were not heavy at all. I rolled the fondant thin, pressed into the molds and let them dry. They looked and felt exactly like real shells. For some reason I cannot attach and upload pics any more in the forums, so you'll have to look in my pics.

I would wait to put them on the cake until you get to the venue, then put them on with melted chocolate or royal icing. Just heat the chocolate in a pastry bag right before you leave. I just did a sea shell themed wedding cake and all of the shells were made out of chocolate. I stuck them on the side of the cake with royal icing and had no problem. Good luck! icon_smile.gif
