Counter space like that makes me jealous! I just have one question for you. Do you decorate standing up? I wasn't sure if you could get a chair or stool up to the decorating table with the storage underneath. Someday maybe I'll have that kind of space!

Congratulations - the studio is beautiful! Can you (or anyone, really) tell me about where to find the vertical pan storage that you have (where the heart pans are)?

Thanks!

There are 2 different ones in the pics. Both are from walmart - one was $5 and one was $8. One is pot lid storage racks and the other is meant to be mounted on side of cabinet to hold pans.

Thank you for posting your pictures, they are truly inspirational. Every time I think of what I need to buy to set up a studio, I get overwhelmed by what things cost when looking at commercial equipment. You have shown what can be done without going into huge debt. You do beautiful work and I wish you much success with your business!!!

I just finished entering my receipts. I dont mind sharing with this info with you gals at all. I had the pans, tips, toll, cutters, freezer, agbay, stand mixer, the little white storage drawers, and a few other things already. The SS tables, 3 basin sink, hand sink , plumbing, electricity, gas lines, concrete, ceiling, shelving, storage tubs with pink handles, fridge, paint and floor epoxy, waterproof milk board behind sinks, wall organizers, hood fans, and I'm sure much more I forgot was all purchased for this project. I shopped careully, planned things meticulously, and did as much of the work as we could ourselves. The entire project was less than $7000 and my dream has become a debtfree reality! Keep working towards it and you can too!

Your studio looks wonderful! Congrats and have fun with it! I too was able to put a "bakery" into my basement with the help of my brother who did everything! He was even able to find discounted items and such for it which helped. I was able to pay for everything with my bonus that I received from my Fulltime job. Little do they know that hopefully I will be able to quit next summer and just do cupcakes, cakes, etc. Haha, thanks bonus!
I became NYS certified in February and never regretted it! It is a long process but once it is complete what a relief. Good luck! Oh, I wish I had a tv in mine, haha!

It came out fantastic...you must be thrilled!

The only thing I would recommend if you haven't thought of it already, is an anti fatigue mat for you to stand on while you're decorating. Especially since you'll be standing on cement.

I wish you much success!

Oh yes, the mat is a great idea! And I wasn't 100% sure from the photos, but is fluorescent
lighting the only lighting you have down there? I'd also suggest having some yellow-spectrum lighting to simulate daylight or incandescent lighting as you'll get truer colours when mixing colours into your GP, fondants and BCs etc.

Jenng1482: I am so impressed. My husband thinks that there is no way that I could do a kitchen for under tens of thousands of dollars even if we did the work ourselves. This proves to me that we can. Where do you live? I am just curious because it would give me a ball park idea if your cost of living was higher than where we lived I am sure that we could do it. Did you shop like a warehouse for used commercial appliances? Would love to learn all I can about your project. You can PM me or do it on here. Whichever you are willing. I am sure some of the others would love the info also. Thank you for any helpful information about your project that you are willing to reveal. We have an old barn that we had talked about restoring and using for such a thing, but he thinks that to do something as extensive a remodeling for a commercial kitchen would be in way above our heads. I think that if he even does what he is talking about that it would make it possible to do the rest good enough to make a kitchen that would pass inspection. Yes I know that we would have the expense of insulating it and heating that you did not have? Well at least I don't think you had to add that to your costs? anyway that would be the biggest expense that was extra over what you did. Thanks again.

One day I will start a thread with pics (and you didn't ask me), but ~
I did a garage, 372 sq' and my biggest expense was
plumbing. $3000 (it only went 10 feet before it connected to the existing) insulation $120
Drywall $150
Flooring $500
french door with sidelights $1000
used oven $500
used sink $350 + $45 in gas to go get it!
mop, produce and hand sinks plus cabinets (used) $190
electric $500 in supplies, $500 for a helper
baseboards $90

I added a lot of options for a ton more icon_redface.gif but this was the basics that I NEEDED. And I live in NKY.

annabakescakes: Is that NKY New York? or where? thanks for your helpfulness. I may just have to wait a while, but the Lord knows I want a kitchen and he knows my age and what I can do and what I can handle so at this time I am just leaving it up to him to take care of the details. He does a great job on things like that when I don't try to help him and get ahead of him. He knows my desires and I believe that his promises are yes and amen and Psalms 37:4-7 tells me that he cares about stuff like that. So we will see. If you don't mind my asking how much was your project total when you were all done with it and how long ago was that? Thanks.

Jenn I love your area and hope one day to have my own!

If you don't mind would you answer a few questions?

1) I see you use Bakers Plus (which I googled) but don't see any prices, what does it cost you to buy bulk?

2) What type of AP Flour and Powdered Sugar do you use? Where from? How much for what qty?

3) Do you bake from scratch or doctored cake?

Thanks for the help. I am trying to figure out if I am ready to set up my own from the kitchen legal cake business. In VA I don't need a license but do have to have a food inspection and approval from my housing management. Just weighing options. icon_wink.gif
