I moved to a new town ~ new job for me and law school for my BF. We purchased a home with a bare space in the basement for me to turn into a cake studio. After several months and lots and lots of elbow grease, its finished! The health inspector will be here towards the end of the month and I will be fully commercially licensed. South Dakota did just pass a cottage food law but with a pretty low sales cap. Here is a link to see the pics of my studio https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150362086235948.401607.521985947&saved#!/media/set/?set=a.10150362086235948.401607.521985947&type=1
Please let me know what you think! I am super excited!
OMG congrats on the studio, it looks great!!!! The 3D food cakes are out of control awesome!!!!! The soup and nachos looked so real I had to take a 2nd look . And I love the reeses/kitkat all occasion cake!!!!!! I might have to borrow that idea one day!! Good luck w/ inspection!!!1
Oh, just look at all the storage and counter space! I am so jealous! I'd love to do something like that, but on a smaller scale, in my next house. For now, it's only a dream... Enjoy!
Believe it or not, its actually only 230 square feet!! 23 x 10! I carefully planned out each and every table, shelf, and appliance for weeks before i decided on a floor plan. Each table has a purpose with the corresponding tools stored within reach.
Can't wait to see it. For some reason I keep getting the message "contents currently unavailable". I will have to try from my computer tomorrow and not my phone.

I got that message also, but notied I wasn't signed into facebook. Once I did sign in I could see it fine
Amazing! Where you live did you do all that work yourselves or did you have to hire an architect ect? Oh also where did you get that cupcake sign above your microwave? Super cute!
Awsome! Where did you get those rollong bins for your ingredients? Are they cheaper than Rubbermaid?
Super job there! Good karma, good feng shui and good luck in your new place of business!
We did almost all of the work ourselves ~ with the exception of hiring out plumbing, gas lines, and most of the electrical. I had a friend's BF tear up the concrete for the water and sewer line, but to save funds I hauled all the concrete rubble through the basement, up the stairs, through the house, down the porch, and down the driveway by myself - with a gallon bucket!
The cupcake sign on micowave and dream sign above sink came from Gordman's along with 3 doorknob hangers the say things like girls clubhouse, ect in different colors with cupcakes.
The smaller rolling bins alsocam from gordmans and then I found the same brand on Amazon to order the larger ones. They are actually dry pet food containers but state NSF safe on them. I contacted my HD before purchase and was told as long it is clear plastic with the NSF logo it is okay to use. Colored plastics are not okay - according to my state- because they are probably made out of recycled material.

Youare my hero, lol! I need something like this so bad! It is one of the main reasons stopping me from trying scratch baking. I will need some where to put the ingredients! I will be ordering 3 really soon!
And a flat screen to boot! That's what I'm talking about! Congratulations, it is very nice.
Totally jealous and happy for you! It's a place that you get away from all distractions and can concentrate totally on creating beautiful cakes. That's awesome! Good luck with your new adventure in caking!
I love it! I would love a nice quiet place to work at home. These days I work in a bakery where it's super loud and someone needs me for something 24/7. Good for you and good luck with your health inspection!!
Congratulations on all the hard work done and the well thought out placement. You definitely should be very proud of a wonderful place to do all your creative thoughts. Wishing you much business!

Congrats. You have my dream studio! I love how you used everyday storage containers and such to organize everything. Nothing is too fancy but really functional. Way to go!

I know right? My BF surprised my with it for my birthday this summer. It sat in the box laughing at me for 6 weeks till I could hang it up!

What is it for? can you actually watch tv when you bake? I am too busy! I rock out in the middle of the night though, when I bake.

I dont really "watch" it. I absolutely hate quiet. I must have background noise all the time. I have a radio in just about every room in my house.

I'm with you on that. I either have "Groundhog Day" or "Julie & Julia" in the background. Not watching, but somewhat listening. Your tv & the location would be ideal for me!
I'd love to see the picture of your studio, but Facebook won't let me log in. Can you put it in your photos or try to attach it to a post?
Thanks.
