I'm ready to get a website going. I know I need to buy a domain name and then I have to figure out where to host this web page. Who did you buy your domain name thru? And who is your web host?
I will be building the website myself, which I have no idea how to do. Some of the sites I've looked at have a link to WordPress and Genesis Framework at the bottom. I can't figure out if WordPress is website design software or is Genesis the software and WordPress is the host.
Please let me know how to make this easy on myself (other than hiring someone to do it for me).
I would recommend taking a look at 1and1.com, they have pretty good web design and hosting packages for novices. They have 24/7 support to help walk you through the ordering process.

You typically buy your domain name from the same company that handles your web hosting. WordPress is a web site that hosts free blogs, in my experience it's not the best way to build a professional-looking web site for a business. Genesis Framework is just the name of a technology platform used by WordPress to build web sites, think of it as WordPress "pro" (it has more features but you have to pay for it).
I am a web designer/ computer programmer (by day). I work for a very large, well known international company . . as well as have my own web design business at home.
(So, how did I end up here making cakes? Long story, worked in an upscale bakery during college, decorating cakes . . had a GREAT time, and although I love programming - I still have that yearning to get back into the cake world).

Genesis Framework is a theme you can purchase to use for your WordPress.org site which is different from a WordPress.com site.
There are two types of WordPress:
On WordPress.com the hosting and managing of the software is taken care of by them. Advertising and commercial websites are prohibited. (They do allow the occasional link to a legitimate retailer like Amazon.)
On WordPress.org you need to install the software on your own server or with a 3rd party provider. Advertising and commercial sites are allowed.
Does anyone host through bluehost. A few people I know have recommended them. How easy is it to build your own website through something like Wordpress? Bluehost says they have drag and drop building, which I'm assuming is easy but since I haven't done it before...

It's hard to beat GoDaddy. Domain prices are VERY reasonable, and their templates are fairly easy to use to build the website. Although their help line isn't free, the people are VERY helpful. I've done some dumb things, and they've fixed them for me. Uptime at GoDaddy is also very good. A simple 5 page website is, i think $5 a month.
Also VistaPrint for a unified look between your website and collateral.
I don't use GoDaddy for hosting, but I do get my names through them. I have a friend with a web company who hosts my site for free because it's so small.
