Decorating By melmcgill Updated 25 Aug 2011 , 12:48pm by Wildgirl
I have a request for a grooms cake that is a duplicate of his truck with there two dogs in the back and the couple in the truck. I can do the truck and the dogs but need suggestions on how to get the couple inside the truck??? Any suggestions and help that I can get would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
OMG the things people ask for. You could maybe do their heads so that it looks as if they looking out the window.
I think I would make the truck cab solid and make the couple out of fondant. Fill the window area in with black fondant, scooping out the side windows to make a little extra room. Stick in the people as if they are hanging out the window, maybe give the bride a veil and have it blowing out behind her as if they are in motion. HTH
You could cut out a [_] shape section in the cake, where the cab would go, and then use Gumpaste or Candy Clay to add the doors and cab roof.

Maybe build the truck except for the top.. then maybe u could mold the top out of fondant...
Tammy, if i do the cab area like you said can I add a gumpaste roof and then cover the whole thing in fondant? Will the gumpaste hold up?? I want it to look like one piece.
I wish I could help but this is beyond my skill level! Please post a picture!!! I'll be watching the thread!
If you are going to cover the roof with fondant I wouldn't use 100% gumpaste -- the moisture from the fondant could soften the gumpaste. Try using a mixture of 50% gumpaste and 50% fondant or Candy Clay. Be sure to let your piece dry for 3-5 days before you cover in fondant.
Edit to add: I'd make my roof 1/4 inch thick.
I honestly don't know, but couldn't rice krispie treats be used to make the cab frame so it's open? Could that be covered with fondant then?
You could also use edible images of their faces and put them in the window of the cab. Not really the effect you want but a whole lot less stress. I had an engagement cake where they wanted the groom driving the police car and the bridge hanging onto the lights on top. I put their own faces in the car and on my bride figure. The cake is in my photos.
I would think rkt cab with models inside and you could use sheet gelatine for the glass.
This is a truck topper I did for a wedding cake - as previous poster suggested - I just did heads out window and arm in the air
