Thanks for your support. I feel really taken advantage of!! Did I mention that I let this woman borrow my square cake stand also at no charge and that I purchased her cake topper because she couldn't find one in gold (Yeah right!) so I guess I felt bad for her and went to hobby lobby the day before her wedding and brought one for her. But wait, there's more. This is the kicker...I got a picture of the cake sent to me from the photographer and the cake didn't look bad. I emailed the photographer about my situation and she said that the MIL also called her demanding a refund AND the caterer (who is a friend of the photographer) got the same exact call!!! I feel furious! I don't know what to do or should I even call this woman and ask her what her true intentions are. I don't know if she's running a scam, is cheap, is truly unsatisfied with the services provided or all the above. Arghhhhh!

Tell the woman that hopefully her disappointment is somehow lessened by the fact that the cake was free.

And keep the $70 for the topper and stand hire thumbs_up.gif

She's refund shopping.

I changed my mind. Tell her to go to Hell.

Sleep well knowing that you did the right thing.

Let her try to get any $$. No court will tell you to return a gift--and your daughter is old enough to testify to exactly what that biotch said to her.

I agree with the others on this one! Even though you told her you would refund the money, send her nothing! Keep the $70 as payment toward the topper and rent on the stand. Cake was free and she can eat dirt! All she wants is a free wedding.

I would get ahold of the bride, she may not know this is going on. And it could come back on her if she need services from any of you (photographer, caterer, etc..)again in the future. Plus service providers are friends with other service providers and they will talk. If she does know about it be sure to warn others about her and her MIL's scam. icon_evil.gif

Unbelievable. I hope you already got your stand back because I'm sure that's worth more than $70.

I wouldn't sent one penny to the MIL. If she phones you again tell her you are waiting to hear from the bride before you do anything since you had a "very interesting" conversation with their photographer.

So is the photographer refunding money too?

The cake may have been no charge but the extras MUST be reimbursed!

icon_confused.gif did you not read the whole thread? the last post she made she found out the MOB is calling everyone to get refunds...she did not have a disaster, the MOB is looking for a free wedding!

smallfrye, i'm not sure why you would mention anything to the bride. the customer is the MOB and it's not the cake decorators job to go telling the bride that her mother is a B*&%! the bride probably already knows and might even be embarrassed!

Actually it's the mother of the groom and she went to the consult with the bride and is now calling all of the vendors while her son and daughter-in-law are honeymooning.

Nice MIL.
