I've just started using Fondx but no matter how much I knead it to make it pliable, it remains too soft and its difficult to cover a cake. I've used Wilton in the past and never had a problem. I've tried to use just a little bit of Crisco to knead the Fondx (as the website advises) but how do I get it to firm up enough that I can cover a cake without the fondant losing its shape? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I make my own fondant, but whenever it's too soft or sticky I start to work with it by adding cornstarch and kneading, powdered sugar and kneading, Crisco and kneading. I work with it and chill it a bit, because it will get warm from the kneading, until it's the right consistency to cover the cake.

I consider it my battle with the fondant, a battle that I have to win! icon_biggrin.gif

I only use crisco if it's too hard. if it's too soft, warm, and won't hold shape, i knead in a bit of powdered sugar.

I had the same problem with FondX. I had ordered it looking to try something new. One thing I learned is I don't like it and won't be ordering it again. It did help to knead in powder sugar to stiffen it up a bit. I ordered Satin Ice recently to try and thought it was also pretty soft, but better than FondX. I like you started out using Wilton and found it super easy to use, but was looking to try something that tasted a little better. I never had any lucky making my own as I didn't like how it came out...

Oh well - hopefully I'll find something I really like and tastes great... for now I'm using the rest of my pail of Satin Ice for covering and Wilton for any decorations. icon_smile.gif
