Help! How Do I Cover A German Chocolate Cake In Fondant?
Decorating By BakingRach Updated 17 Aug 2011 , 5:25am by BakingRach
I want to know how to cover a german chocolate cake in fondant. I love my coconut frosting recipe I have, but I broil it on a flat cake to let the butter seep in. If I cover it in fondant, it would be lumpy and bumpy from the crunchy coconut. Am I missing something simple to make this all possible? Any response would be helpful! Thanks!
I won't cover anything with fondant that has a "bumpy" icing on it. The fondant magnifies every bump.
For German chocolate, I use the coconut laced icing as the filling only and then ice it in a coconut or caramel buttercream & then cover in fondant.

I do the coconut icing as the filling and then ice the outside with chocolate ganache before covering in fondant.
maybe instead of putting it on the top, make more layers & fill them with the frosting. you can cover the cake w choc ganache & then fondant.
