I read through a lot of these posts and see people making anywhere from 2 to five cakes if not more weekly, how did you get your cake business to that point? I am trying to hit the bridal market but have no clue where to start looking. Can a home based cake business actually be a full time job where you are making enough to pay the bills on solely selling cakes?

yes
Exhibit at a wedding show or two, make great looking and tasting cakes, price reasonably/fairly and word of mouth will be there.
It's possible to earn a living wage doing this, but IMO it's very difficult unless you keep your costs down and you live in an area where people are willing to buy custom cakes at prices that are profitable for you. Your business plan will be able to give you insight as to whether or not this is feasible in your area.
I personally think your question cannot be answered truthfully until we know definitely where in the world you live. What is working for one person in CA or TN will not necessarily work all around the world.
I live in MO and there are several that I know of that do wedding cake businesses from their homes and make a fair living at it. One I know has been in business for over 40 years. She goes to Hawaii every year. Hers is out of her home. Her kitchen is in the basement of their home. I know another lady that did it full time, but she had to give it up because I think that carpal tunnell became too much of a problem. She is using her kitchen to do farmer's market in the summer times. She said that was a great business also. Her kitchen was in her home's basement also. I know another woman that does it from her home and I am not sure where her extra kitchen is, but I know she has one. I think these other's suggestions have been good.
