For those of you that use a smart phone for your business, what do you use and do you like it? Do you wish it did something it doesn't? Does it have features you don't use?

I am thinking of getting an iphone. It had the largest amount of pixels in the comparison I was looking at. I will use it as the camera for my business, also, so that is important. I also want to use Square, and I know it works with an iphone.

Should I look further? Or go with the iphone? Do i need anything it doesn't do?

I am not really into gadgets and such, and am not very good at technical stuff with electronics...

Thanks in Advance!!!

I swear by my iPhone. I run my business from it. Texting, emailing, taking pictures. It works great with square. I have nothing negative to say about it.

My dh and I both used to have blackberry phones. I seriously cant live without that thing, I love it. But my dh needed something with more umph technology wise (since we run a technology consulting business) so he just recently bought an iphone. Its awesome. He loves it and hasnt put it down since he got it. He loves how the internet looks like it does when you use a real PC, not all weird like on my blackberry. Its REALLY heavy though, even though its so slim. And it looks like it could break really easily. Id be afraid to have one since Im so rough on my phones.

Oh and about the ipad. Another tech biz we work with uses those instead of phones. Unless you have the earbuds in you can't hear the phone ring. My dh HATES them. He can't ever get ahold of the other biz owner because he never has his earbuds in and can't hear the phone ring when dh calls. It's cool for everything else but that. I'm sure there has to be a way to fix that but we don't own one and the other biz owner just upgraded to those so they are still new to them too.

I didn't think the iPad could be used as a phone, unless you count Skype and the like.

One thing to keep in mind when integrating a mobile device into your core business processes is to have a backup plan. What would happen if your mobile device was damaged or lost?

I don't have a smartphone (I still have an old Nokia that only does voice and text), but if I were to use Square I would probably buy an iPad and keep my old phone.

I just saw this. http://www.labnol.org/software/make-phone-calls-on-ipad/19561/

There is an app that turns your older ipad into a phone, and you use your sim card and keep your number. Really cool! If it would work all the time, and you didn't have to keep ear buds in, that would be great.

I am really hard on my phones too. I dropped mine in the bath tub a couple months ago, and my husband jumped in the pool with it in is his pocket last summer. I think I drop it on the floor every.single.day. Sometimes 2 or 3 times. I leave it on my lap when driving and open the door and hop out and BLAM! right on the pavement. I would definitely need the little rubber sleeve thing to cover it.

Leah_s: What made you pick android? I have verizon, so last year that was the only option, but you can use iphones now, so I am confused about what would be best.

I have an iPhone 4G and love it! Email, text, web surfing, GPS, etc. I write up an order confirmation and send it via email while I'm still have the client on the phone or I look at emails they have sent me while I'm still talking to them. Same thing goes with GPS. I basically do all my online shopping thru my phone. The only downside is that it is addicting! It really is great!

I use an andriod phone and just started using Square. I love my phone, but it's a touchscreen, so texting while driving is a lot harder! LOL! (That was a joke - no need to give me legal advice or warnings about it. kthxbai.)

I LOVE the name Fedra, have you heard the song by Nancy Sinatra, Some Velvet Morning? They sing about Phaedra. Same right? lol just kidding

That sounds really nice being able to do both. I guess you use speaker phone? Does it sound weird? I hate it when my mom puts me on speaker phone.

haha, I text at red lights, I put my makeup on while driving, lol. JK

I am going to have to do more research. Does anyone use an android that used to have an iphone, or vise versa? Which is better that way?

Another FAB thing for my business with my iPhone (I have no idea about its availability for other phones) is Carbonite. I can't say enough about this! It's an online backup system for ym main PC. Literally every file I have is safe in cyberspace and it updates in the background constantly as I make changes to files. This is $40/year. They also have a free app for my iphone on which I CAN ACCESS EVERY SINGLE FILE AND IMAGE ON MY PC! wow! I have gone to Kinkos, used the Carbonite app to email them a flyer, and then had the copies made. Sooo many applications!

I have an Ipod touch- the advantage is that when I'm ON the phone with a customer, I can be looking at my calendar on the Ipod, taking notes, invoicing, etc. at the same time without a headset on. I use square and freshbooks on my ipod, and answer email all day long. I'm not on the computer much, but I love having it all in my pocket. I've thought about getting an iphone, my dh has one, but I really like the way the ipod works, plus it's free to run over the wifi I already have in my house.

That's what my dh does with his Iphone. I think he could rule the whole world with just his phone. Last year he bought this super nice, super expensive laptop for our tech biz but since he got his Iphone it has sat in the case in our office totally useless. That phone does everything. And he's totally addicted to angry birds.

I have an iPhone for my personal use and bought a DroidX for our small business, to use with Square (LOVE LOVE LOVE Square, btw). I, by FAR prefer the iPhone (which can also be used with Square) and wish I had bought another one for our business!

That is good to know! Could you give me some more details as to why? I like to really examine and research everything to death before I make purchase.

My iPhone just performs better. Internet on the Droid drains the battery much faster than on my iPhone. The iPhone is faster on all applications and imo more user-friendly. I like to update our Facebook page when I'm at the shop (we don't have internet yet) and it is a ROYAL pain to do on the Droid. The iPhone makes it easy to update the shop page or my personal page. The droid makes it impossible to update my shop page - always posts to my personal page...just little things like that. And I must say that it may be the Droid - other phones with android os may work much better. I love techno gadgets and I resisted the iPhone for a long time. But it really is all that Apple says it is!! HTH some,
Lily

Awesome Lily, that really helps a lot. Thank you so much.

I was considering the ipad and another phone, but I carry my personal phone as well, and really just want one for business and one for personal, so I would have to carry all that stuff around, and it sounds so lame to do that! lol.

I had Sprint check out my Evo Android. They found the apps that drain the battery... some factory installed. Now it goes all day. I love the phone. I haven't found anything it can't do.
