I just made a cake for a 50th b-day party. It was a surprise and this man's daughter was so excited for me to make her dad a cake. She is one of my dance students. It had a Miller Light and Harley Davidson theme. The cake was so difficult from the start. I am not used to working in such high heat so the fondant was a nightmare....I forgot to put reeses peanut buttercups in 2 of 3 layers of PB filling. I ran out of buttercream before the top tier was covered. I had the hardest time getting the Harley logo right. Finally at around 12am I thought I had it pretty good...not perfect...but okay. I had my kids look at it and my husband. They thought it was great. The mom (who is a friend) came and picked it up and loved it. So I was looking back at pictures and all of a sudden I noticed that I had left out the second 'c' in Cycles. icon_surprised.gif this is an hour after the party was already going. I texted her immediately telling her how sorry I was and how completely embarassed I was. I feel like I am going to puke. Of course everyone says they didn't notice...and to prove it she said she even posted it on FB. However the angle she posted it at does not show the mistake. I can't imagine what they must have been saying about it! I know they want to spare my feelings but that almost makes it even worse! I think I might just die. I mean how dumb could I possibly be???????????? thumbsdown.gificon_sad.gificon_cry.gif

Well hopefully you didn't separate the motor from the cycle... motorcycle is one word... LOL.

Don't sweat it... we all do something that makes us feel like a dumbass once in a while. Or more than once in a while... LOL. Count yourself lucky that your customer didn't care so much and have a laugh...

I'm sorry that happened to youicon_sad.gif

I was working Father's Day last year and one of my coworkers sent a cake out that said Happy "BIRTHER'S" Day! Granted, these are just store cakes we keep in the case, but it happens so don't let this get to you. I personally, have written Birthday Birthday instead of Happy Birthday.

no, it is seperated in the logo =) Harley-Davidson is in the center....and then motor is on top and Cycles is on bottom. So eventhough that is not tecnically right that is how it is in their logo! =) But still, I never heard of a motorcyle anyway!

Thanks! Feeling better and mostly glad it was a friend. But I just know I will feel stupid every time I see her from now on. "Happy Birthers Day" That is too funny! It is crazy what your eyes just skip over. I read so fast that as long as most of the word is there I would never notice it being spelled wrong. I obviously need to TRIPLE check from now on! But gosh I really thought I did. I even took a ton of pics and then looked at the pics and never noticed it! Well not until an hour or so later. This was actually my first cake with any words and I go and spell something wrong. I am gonna make sure that NEVER happens again! Thanks again Ladies!

LOL.. Oh I have 2... they are great on gas. icon_wink.gif

heheheheh

I missed that it was the logo... I'm sure that they were so thrilled with the cake they didn't even notice until you pointed it out.

I once left the e off the end of Shakespeare on a book cake. They never noticed either... LOL.

Yup...been there done that too!! I made a birthday cake for a family member and we were going to a restaurant for dinner...probably about 8 of us. I took the cake and it was taken and put in the fridge for us until we were ready and of course they bring the cake out at the end of the meal with a bunch of waiters and waitresses singing happy birthday and everything was fine and I felt so good and proud about my cake because it was only about the 3rd cake I had ever made for someone. Then when we were leaving the restaurant, my Mom said to me..."Did you notice you put Happy BIRTDAY on the cake?" I could have died!!! icon_redface.gif Everyone knew I made the cake and all the staff were probably dying laughing in the kitchen at my boo boo!

But I survived, as will you! icon_lol.gif

I made two cake for Obama's birthday a few years ago. I was so proud and took pictures to show my husband when I got home. He pointed out that one of the cakes was missing the H in Birthday. HAPPY BIRTDAY OBAMA! Um, yeah, I was mortified and waiting for a complaint call but it never came!

I only discovered this on my birthday in June cos my friend bought me a book and I was in stitches. It was too funny.

If you see that I wouldn't worry about missing a letter out! I don't even.think its anything to do with having a dumb moment, when you've been working on a cake for ba long time and just can't wait to be done or when you're tired your brain doesn't work the same!

Yes, I also have a bad spelling story... Not a cake...MY WEDDING INVITES!!! I hand made all of my invitations. I spelled JOIN wrong... I spelled it JION. There was no re-doing 50 handmade invitations to fix it so I sent them out misspelled. How embarassing, especially since I could have used spell check and did not!!!

I had a "Garden Girl" cake to do for a little girl turning 4. The cake was a nightmare. They wanted half chocolate and half vanilla. So I tried the divider and pouring both mixes in the pan at the same time. That worked...it was when I took the cake out of the pan the cake cracked all the way through on the vanilla side. Re-made the cake. Did the same thing on the chocolate side. So 1 am I am driving 45 miles to the nearest 24hr grocery store to get more ingredients. At this time I am pulling an all nighter. Made my icing and rushed to decorate it. Finally got the cake decorated moments before they picked up the cake. They left with the cake...then about 30 minutes later I am glancing at my pictures I took of the cake. I yelled..."OH CRAP"! I forgot to draw the wings on the bumble bee....couldn't believe it! I don't think anyone noticed. I posted the picture on FB and nobody commented on the missing wings. I felt so awful!!!!
