I am having major idea's block on this one. I'm looking to make it youthful since it is a 1st Birthday cake yet incorporate the fact that it is New Years Eve.

Any ideas?

Also, if I decorate with the year in numbers - which year would go on the cake? 2011 since its New Years Eve? or 2012 since it is the new year?

Instead of the year, you could just put "Happy Birthday" on the sash.

Is the child's actual birthday December 31st? All the party decorations for a New Year's Party will say 2012, however if the child turned 1 on 12/31/11 then 2012 would not be appropriate. I would agree with Juleebug and not put the date!

Yep, the actual 1st birthday is December 31st so she will be one on New Years Eve. One years old in 2011 that kind of confused me on if I put Happy New Year 2011 or 2012.

I would say technically the baby new year would be for Jan 1st but run it by your customer cause they may not care! Baby New Year is a cute idea

My client is concerned about the skin complexion for baby new year not matching her daughters coloring so I'm going to avoid her being disappointed or upset and stay away from adding a baby to the cake.
